Poconos Resorts & Tourism

The Pocono Mountains are spread over northeastern Pennsylvania. The Poconos are a recreational destination for local and regional visitors. It is a very popular tourist destination for skiing in winters.

Pocono Range, an extension of the Catskills Mountains, has Elk Hill at 2693ft as the highest elevation and the lowest elevation in Pike County at 350ft. The Delaware River flowing here gives the region its name from Native American term that translates stream between two mountains.

Poconos is the recreation destination for visitors from New York City, New Jersey and Philadelphia. The region's diverse natural setting attracts people here. Delaware State Forest has six designated natural areas, seven state parks, seventeen state game lands, and one national park.

Popular summer activities like whitewater rafting, canoeing, camping and hiking bring tourists. Numerous ski resorts in and around the Poconos offer some of the closest and most accessible skiing.

Ski areas in the Poconos may not be particularly large or have vertical drops. Even so the shorter runs attract skiers because of its convenient location. Also many areas offer night skiing. Many Pocono resorts cater to both winter and summer activities for visitors.
